It was officially summer in Word Town, and Mr Conjunction met up with his friends, Noun Boy and Adjective Anteater, to visit the festival gazebo. The two twins, Independent Clause and Dependent Clause, were busy arguing over whose sentence they made was the best.
“Tim Tense always chooses me. I’m totally independent and can make a whole sentence by myself,” was Independent Clause’s bickering.
“Oh yeah? Well, I help make your sentence longer with the help of Mr Conjunction!” Dependent Clause shot back. “You’re not going anywhere without me!”
Mr Conjunction mouthed to Noun Boy, “Told you no sentence would be without me, Noun Boy!”
Noun Boy quickly rolled his eyes. “C’mon, can we plan our banners?”
“Wait,” Adjective Anteater stopped him. “We can’t let them go on disturbing everyone with their argument!”
“You’re absolutely right,” Mr Conjunction agreed.
The three slowly made their way to the gazebo, where the twins were priming their fists to punch each other. The gazebo echoed a lot, so Word Town would probably send Chloe Comma and Georgia Grammar to dispatch them because it was getting out of hand.
“Excuse me, Independent Clause and Dependent Clause?” Adjective Anteater asked timidly while Mr Conjunction and Noun Boy stared in wonder. “Stop arguing all the time. You’re of the same level, and there’s no point yelling at each other who’s the best.”
The twins looked at each other, lowered their hands and shut their mouths to avoid speaking. They hung their heads. “Sorry,” they mumbled to each other.
The three watched in wonder as they became the joyous, happy pair they were expected to be.
“Should we bake a cake?” asked Dependent Clause.
“No, we should plan a special announcement for the budding citizens of our town!” exclaimed Independent Clause.
The two held hands and skipped away. Noun Boy smiled, Mr Conjunction giggled and Adjective Anteater let her breath loose.
“That was a first for the beginning of summer,” Mr Conjunction noted as they held their lanterns and twirled the twinkling fairy lights.
